A PAIR OF RUSSIAN 4-8-4s AT NIGHT At a quiet country station near Krasnoselka, Ukraine, in the cold evening of February 25, 1994, double-heading Russian P36 4-8-4s Nos. 0218 and 0050 waited to clear an oncoming diesel passenger train. After it arrived at the depot, its red rear marker lights reflected off the flanks of the semi-streamlined steam engines. The pair prepared to move out along the mainline, the headlamp beam of the 0218 penetrating the black Ukrainian winter night.
